Week 2: Harness Positive Thinking to Heal

A Challenge to Create a Stronger Mindset to Heal Your Body + Unlock the Benefits of an Optometrist’s Eyelid Care Regimen

Goal: Making a Habit Out of Your Eye Care Routine

We’re going to begin by discussing why an eyelid cleansing routine is so important. Throughout this course, we’ll teach you many things that pertain to the health of your entire body. But since your eyes are the windows to the rest of your body, we’ll begin there.

Your morning routine can be pretty simple but if you wear makeup, it’s important to make sure you’re removing your makeup completely at night.

I occasionally wear waterproof mascara, which is notorious for being difficult to remove, so I’m going to give you a tip on that and show you the rest of my eyelid cleansing routine, for both morning and evening.

You’ll notice through this routine that I use a lot of the products that we came out with when we owned Eye Love. This is because we believe in our products and they don’t contain preservatives that harm your eyelids, the hypochlorous spray has only three ingredients, the foaming face wash contains organic coconut and olive oil, and the same is true for everything we sell.

We do that on purpose. It’s because we purposely practice what we preach. We like simplicity. We like to put only the purest of products in our bodies and on our bodies.

I keep my morning routine incredibly simple. If you want, you can begin by washing your face with a tea tree oil cleanser (I prefer a foaming cleanser), or you can simply rinse your face with water.

MORNING ROUTINE

1. I wash my face with the Heyedrate Tea Tree Foaming Face Wash and dry.

2. I cleanse my eyelids with a hypochlorous acid based eyelid cleanser, like Heyedrate Lid and Lash Cleanser. I spray it onto an organic cotton ball, rub it into my eyelids, face, and eyelash area, and then let it dry.  I don’t wash it off.

I use this both morning and evening.

3. I complete my morning routine with a gentle moisturizer all over my face, neck and eyelids. I’ll then follow up with an SPF if I know I’ll be outside for some of my day!

As you can see, I keep my mornings pretty simple.

NIGHTLY ROUTINE

1. Wet your closed eyelids with a splash of water (this helps to loosen any makeup you’re wearing, and it makes removing everything even easier – even waterproof mascara!)

2. Use an eyelid wipe like MediViz Tea Tree Eyelid Wipes to remove eye makeup and start to clean my eyelids.

3. Wet your entire face and wash your face with Heyedrate Tea Tree Foaming Face Wash. Just pump 2-4 pumps into your hand. Then, massage it into your face. You can use this soap over closed eyelids, although you want to make sure to rinse very well afterward, as tea tree essential oil can burn the eyes.

Then, pat your face dry.

4. Cleanse the eyelids with a hypochlorous acid based eyelid cleanser. I use the Heyedrate Lid and Lash Cleanser. I simply spray it onto a cotton ball or round, rub it into my eyelash margin, and let it dry.

5. I then debride the eyelids with a device like NuLids, which helps to break up biofilm.  This biofilm is very hard to destroy with regular eyelid hygiene, and nightly NuLids exfoliation helps to break through it.

6. I then moisturize my eyelids and face with a gentle moisturizer.

That’s pretty much it for my eyelid and facial cleansing routine. If you want to use a warm compress eye mask in the evening, you can use one after you wash your face (or after using your NuLids device).

Simple warm compress instructions:

  1. Just microwave for 15-20 seconds.
  2. Place the warm compress over closed eyes for 15-20 minutes.
  3. Relax!
